The story of this wine

Our friend Jenny Metelerkamp who lived with us at Lloyd’s camp, Botswana produced the fine Painted Wolf ink drawing for our logo which we adapted to suit this elegant black label and finishing the product with a burnt orange capsule.

Tasting notes

A medium bodied with citrus, white peach and creamy aromas. The wine has a lovely texture with a long finish and fresh acid keeping it vivacious and vibrant. The wine will sealed with a Diam cork to retain freshness. This is a little stab at something new- always loved White Northern Rhone Wines.

The vineyard

Roussanne is grown by Willy Mostard on the south eastern side of the Paardeberg. The wines are planted on decomposed granite soils.

Winemaking

The wine was fermented at Koopmanskloof in Stellenbosch in a large new 2000 litre oak tank before being decanted into 500 litre 3rd fill French oak barrels in which we had previously made viognier.  Chenin Blanc lees were added back to the wine, which was stirred regularly. Malolactic fermentation was not encouraged. After 7 months in wood, the wine was moved to Rheebokskloof to be bottled. Before being bottled we finessed the wine with a small quantity of fresh high acid Chenin Blanc. Only 1000 bottles were produced

Ageing potential

This wine should be drunk within 2 to 3 years of the vintage.
