The story of this wine

The den wines are social wines to be enjoyed with friends and family. These wines are named for the den, the heart of all African wild dog communities. Flavour-packed, soft and juicy comfort wines for every day drinking.

Jenny Metelerkamp produced a fine Painted Wolf ink drawing for the label.

Tasting notes

A smooth full bodied wine with typical Cab flavours of blackcurrant, brambly fruit with toasty oaking. The wine was softened by the addition of 15% merlot .This is a fruity Cab, with a lovely rich texture, a long finish with just enough acid to keep the wine in balance. The wine has been sealed with a screw cap to maintain its freshness.

The vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon is harvested from a number of vineyards in Stellenbosch and the Swartland. Merlot is from Kasteelsig vineyard in Malmesbury, Swartland.

Winemaking

This wine was made from ripe grapes picked to deliver a rich flavour and soft tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented in tank with a mixture of different French oak staves, and was then aged on the same staves. Merlot was barrel aged in new French oak barrels.
