The story of this wine

The den wines are social wines to be enjoyed with friends and family. These wines are named for the den, the heart of all African wild dog communities. Flavour-packed, soft and juicy comfort wines for every day drinking.

Jenny Metelerkamp produced a fine Painted Wolf ink drawing for the label.

Tasting notes

A smooth medium bodied wine with typical Cab flavours of black current, brambly fruit, mint and toasty oak. The wine has a lovely rich texture with a long finish with bright acidity and soft tannins, keeping it fresh and vibrant. The wine has been sealed with a screw cap to maintain its freshness.

Food suggestions

Enjoy with a variety of meat dishes such as home-made lamb burgers, sticky roasted pork belly or braised lamb shanks.

The vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon is harvested from a number of vineyards in the Swartland.

Winemaking

This wine was made from ripe grapes picked to deliver a rich flavour. The wine was fermented in tank with a mixture of different French oak staves, and then completed malolactic on staves; the wine was finished off with 5% Swartland Merlot 2012 which was matured in 2nd fill French oak barrels. The wine was bottled in January 2013.

Ageing potential

This wine is good now, and will improve over the coming 3-4 years.
