This time of year is always interesting. Having submitted our wines for judging, we wait impatiently for the results of the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. The only inkling that we get is the heads-up notification to be ready to take part in the public tastings and which wines to bring. There is no indication of the award, all it tells us is that those wines have been awarded silver or higher.

We are proud to present our results:

  • Paarl Roussanne 2014 – 84 points
  • Peloton Rouge 2013 – 80 points

  • The Den Shiraz 2014 – 77 points
  • Swartland Syrah 2013 – 75 points
  • The Den Pinotage 2014 – 75 points
  •  ‘Guillermo’ Swartland Pinotage 2012 – 70 points

Paarl Roussanne – our only white among the reds – achieved 4th place in the Top 10 Niche wines category, and as the top 3 were all reds, it makes this delicious bottle of citrus, white peach and creamy aromas, the top niche white wine for 2016.

This particular wine of ours has a great track record, considering we have only produced it in 2011, 2012 and 2014. Painted Wolf Roussanne has been recognized as the top Roussanne in South Africa in a number of competitions over the past years. Emma and Jeremy recieved a trophy in 2012 from Classic Wine magazine for the top ranked niche white varietal for the 2011 Roussanne. Wine State Magazine in Australia also voted it as their top niche wine.

Of the reds, the Swartland Syrah, Den Shiraz and Peloton Rouge were all tasted and awarded for the first time, which gives them a decent start in their award winning lives. And of course, our stalwart, ‘Guillermo’ Swartland Pinotage, is a consistent winner and the same wine that Jeremy was shortlisted for in last year’s Diners Club wine maker of the year award. Any one visiting Jika restaurant at Animal Kingdom, Disney World, Florida, can order this wine with  their dinner as it has just been added to their wine list.
