Awards – our wines perform well in the beginning of the year
We started the year off with some great awards for our wines. If you are a follower on facebook, you would have noticed an increase in photos of Jeremy holding certificates and looking proud.
National Wine Challenge/Top 100 wines 2017
At the National Wine challenge/Top 100 awards, two of our premium white wines were awarded Double Platinum and Top 100: Old Vine Paarl Chenin Blanc 2015 and Pictus V 2016. The latter is our first ever white Pictus – a blend of Grenache Blanc 49%, Chenin Blanc 43% and Roussanne 8%. We have only had one wine in the Top 100 in previous competitions, so achieving two this year is extra special.
In the same competition, Pictus IV 2012 (red blend); The Den Pinotage 2014 and Guillermo Pinotage 2013 were awarded Double Gold, and Peloton Rouge 2014, Double Silver.
International Wine Challenge 2017
In this challenge, a UK based competition, our Top 100 wines were also standouts. Pictus V 2016 was awarded Gold, while Old Vine Paarl Chenin Blanc 2015 and Paarl Roussanne 2015 (not yet launched) achieved Silver.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
They sent in their results in May and we were excited to see that this time our reds were receiving the attention. Swartland Syrah 2013 and Guillermo Swartland Pinotage 2013 were both awarded 90 points – something we have only achieved once before. The Den Chenin Blanc 2016 scored 87 points.
Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2017
Guillermo 2013 won gold again, with Paarl Roussanne 2015 winning silver.
Guillermo Pinotage is definitely the wine that, vintage after vintage wine awards and accolades, a tribute to the amazing pinotage grapes from Kasteelsig and some skillful winemaking in the cellar. It is, however, nice to see our white wines gaining traction in the awards, especially at international level!
Onward and upward!
