A quartet of winning whites

A quartet of winning whites

We have had such an amazing start to the awards season this year, with four of our white wines scooping early medals.

First up is our celebrated Lightning Sauvignon Blanc 2020, which came home from the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon with a gold medal. This Walker Bay wine is the first premium Sauvignon Blanc in the Painted Wolf stable, and also the first in our new range of wines named after notable African wild dogs (painted wolves). South African wines stole the show at this international competition and we are proud to have contributed to this success.

Roussanne has always been a jewel in the Painted Wolf crown, and the recently released Black Pack Roussanne 2019 is no exception, coming away from the National Wine Challenge with Grand Cru National Champion Best in Class as well as Top 100 & Double Platinum awards. One of the few single-cultivar Roussannes in South Africa, this rare wine hails from the Voor-Paardeberg. We were also delighted to win Double Golds for Lightning Sauvignon Blanc 2020, Guillermo Pinotage 2019, Lycaon Grenache 2019 and Pictus VIII.

Penny Viognier 2018 has been biding its time in bottle and has come into its own this year, and the judges of the Viognier Challenge agreed, awarding it a Gold medal. With grapes from the high altitude reaches of the Breedekloof, this wine shows all the usual Viognier aromatics with added freshness on the palate.

And last but most definitely not least, our exceedingly popular the den Chenin Blanc 2020 was nominated as a Top Ten wine by Winemag’s Prescient Chenin Blanc Report. With a small wooded component lending texture to the zesty, fruity tank-fermented wine, we believe that this Chenin Blanc offers exceptional value for money.

Reflecting on all this exciting news, Jeremy Borg said “I am humbled and delighted by the recognition our wines are receiving. I always like to do things a little differently, working with unusual grapes and allowing them to guide my winemaking decisions, and it is wonderful to achieve these results. Of course our ultimate goal is to raise as much money as possible for African wild dog (painted wolf) conservation through wine sales, so these awards are invaluable in helping us to accomplish that.”

All of these award-winning wines can be ordered online or purchased from our den at 125 Main Road, Paarl.
