News from the den – mafia, money and more

As always, the pack at Painted Wolf Wines is constantly on the move, spreading the word on wine and wild dogs.

Expanding our paw print

Jeremy and Amanda have been busy spreading the word, in Johannesburg, KZN, and across the Cape. We have been delighted to sponsor wine for a number of events supporting causes close to our heart, such as a fund-raising dinner at the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital for pangolin treatment and rehabilitation and the African Icons Invitational cycle race. Emma, once again flew east, this time to Russia where she presented our wines at World Food Moscow. She also spent some time working with our importer Wine Mafia and expanding our paw print in Russia.

Chequeing in

Emma then moved on to the UK where she presented a cheque for โ‚ค7262 to Tusk CEO Charlie Mayhew and his team. This donation will be used to fund the Botswana Predator Conservation Trust; Painted Dog Conservation and African Wildlife Conservation Fund in Zimbabwe. This is the ninth year that Painted Wolf Wines have supported conservation in Botswana and Zimbabwe through a donation to Tusk. Thank you to our importer North South Wines for their support. To date we have contributed about R3 million to conservation in several countries through various channels.

The Paarl Pack – Fiona, Annamarie, Lyn, Emma and Carmen

Our team in Paarl continues to grow. This year we have welcomed Annamarie Hitchcock and Fiona Bergmann to the pack, with Lyn Mossner often helping out with Wine on Wednesday. Fiona is now your first point of contact for our tasting venue and wine club and can be reached at wines@paintedwolfwines.com.

If you are in South Africa and would like to buy our wines online,ย  our online shop has a brand new look, and discounts are now available for all loyal online customers. Visit our shop here.

In Paarl, our Wine and Tapas evenings are back in full swing as the weather warms up, every Wednesday from 5-8pm. ย Each week you can choose from a selection of tapas from Sit Cafรฉ to enjoy with our wines of the week. We had a festive time when renowned musician Newton came along to entertain us and we’ll be lining up more special events as the year comes to a close.

Six nations wine challenge

We were thrilled to learn that our Pictus VI had won a Double Gold Medal at the Six Nations Wine Challenge.

What makes it even more satisfying is that this is an invitation only event, open to six new world wine producing countries โ€“ Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and USA. Each country judge picks his dream team of 100 wines from his ownย  country. Wines that in his opinion are the best examples of the 16 different classes of wine in the competition. Then the judges get to blind taste the 600 wines and award them points.

The inviters and judges are Huon Hooke (Australia) , Bob Campbell MW (New Zealand), Michael Fridjhon (South Africa), Patrick Comiskey (USA), Christopher Waters (Canada) and Eduardo Brethauer (Chile).

We were thrilled to be invited to participate and even more thrilled to be awarded this medal. You can read more about Pictus VI here.
