The story of this wine
Our friend Jenny Metelerkamp who lived with us at Lloyd’s camp, Botswana produced the fine Painted Wolf ink drawing for our logo which we adapted to suit this elegant black label and finishing the product with a burnt orange capsule.
A powerful and robust wine packed with flavours of ripe berry fruit, peppery spice and creamy vanilla and carefully judged oak with evident ripe tannins and a long lingering finish.
A warming wine which is wonderful with simply grilled steak or lamb chops, well flavoured country styles sausage or braised beef/lamb dishes which are made with wild mushroom such as Porcini/Cepes.
Pinotage grapes were sourced from the Devon Rocks vineyard which is owned by Painted Wolf Pack member, Juergen Heinrich. The vineyard is mainly ancient sandstone and is south-west facing. Yields are round 8 tons to the hectare.
The grapes were hand- picked. The wine fermented in tank on staves and moved to French and American oak barrels, approximately 70% new, for 9 months. Just over 7000 bottles produced.
This wine will age well in bottle for up to 10 years from vintage.
