The story of this wine
Jemma is our old bush vehicle, which carried us on wonderful adventures to remote and pristine places. She is now engaged in seeking out grapes, and in motivating funding for conservation. The label features a water colour painting by Jenny Metelerkamp, our friend and companion when we lived in the bush in Botswana.
This wine has a fruity aroma and flavours of tropical fruit. Sweet melon, pear, peaches and pineapple with an under lying savoury minerality. The wine has a great texture and a long layered finish with bright acidity keeping it fresh and vibrant.
Jemma Chenin blanc is delicious on its own. The wine has tons of flavours and poise and is a versatile partner for many different dishes.
Chenin Blanc is harvested from a number of blocks on farms in the Swartland region, both irrigated and dry farmed vines of various ages between 10 and 30 years old.
2017 was the third dry vintage on the trot. It was however quite cool coming into the harvest period. We adapted the vintage by making two separate batches of wine, the first from early picked fruit, and the second a riper portion fermented with French oak staves. We opted for simple cold fermentation with a few months of lees contact. The wine is made up from a number of different vineyards harvested from a range of sites and soil types. The oak component wakes up around 50% of the total blend. The two components had different flavours and textures from which we have endeavoured to produce a well- balanced interesting wine which is a joy to drink.
This wine should be drunk within 2-3 years of the vintage.
A social wine to be enjoyed with friends and family. Named for THE DEN, the heart of the Wild Dog community. Flavour packed, soft and juicy comfort wines for every day drinking.
A pack of Wild Dogs and a pack of cyclists share the same goal. Whether it is food for the pack or the end of a long road, what remains is the bond between pack members and the ability to unwind and enjoy the company. Company made all the more enjoyable by sharing a good wine, a love of wide open spaces and the Wild Dogs who roam them.
High quality wines carefully hand crafted from our 3 Pack members’ grapes including a number of single vineyard wines named after the vineyard owners.
Named after Lycaon Pictus, the scientific name for Painted Wolf. Each edition of this deluxe Rhone style blend is as rare and beautiful as the Wild Dogs we support. Each year we choose a painting from one of our pack artists to feature on the label and each year we match estimated Wild Dog numbers with the number of bottle we produce. In most cases, the original painting is sold at auction with proceeds donated to wild dog research and conservation.
